While I was driving home in the wee hours of the morning from my gig in Essex Junction, I heard the coolest story on the BBC overnight broadcast on NPR. There is a guy from seatle named Curtis Ebbesmeyer who has been tracking the migration of several thousand rubber duckies that were mistakenly dumped off a container ship into to Pacific Ocean back in 1992.
These little guys successfully navigated over 17,000 miles from the pacific ocean, past the north pole and down along the coast of Greenland. They are poised hit the beaches of England and Ireland any day now. I guess their path tells researchers much about ocean currents and climates. If you google the guy, you will find a slew of articles on the migration. He is offering $100.00 to first person who sends him one from British Isles. Kinda cool.
Driving late at night after a gig is an "out of body" experience sometimes. After the first hour it feels like I am possessed and I could drive for as long as I wanted to. The drive was pretty with the moonlight. I got home at 3:00AM. God bless the BBC!
