the first flakes of fall

Fall 2008
The leaves are pretty much gone here in my dingy little upstate town but it’s been a beautiful fall. The colors seemed brighter than any I can remember in recent years. The weather was outstanding.

I haven’t fished much but I did well the few times I got to go. My steelhead trip is coming up soon.

With Music:I hooked up with a couple of guys and we are doing an acoustic trio. We’ve had a couple of gigs and they were pretty good. We will get better with more time under us.

And LifeThe life part of life has been really good. Not perfect but really good
Bundle and I stumbled upon an awesome place to go hiking. Its owned by the columbia county land conservancy. I am thinking that it might be one of the highest points in the county. This where these pics are from.

A show worth remembering
We went to a show in Northhampton. The Carolina Chocolate Drops were awesome. The woman played the best Kazoo solo I’ve ever heard in my life and people danced! The were very fun and very enlightening. I learned there that the white guy who wrote "Dixie" was from Ohio. I also learned that there is pretty strong evidence that he stole the melody from a song that his neighbors taught him. The ironic thing is that his neighbors were black. All those folks who sing dixie as some kinda anthem of oppression were singing a song written by a black man. Ironic huh?

October 28, 2008
Today isn’t beautiful unless you’re a duck. Its was rainy and windy. Now its snowing.

I just called Jelly Jar (my oldest) to find out if it was snowing at their house, she sighed and said,

"Yes daddy, its gross!"

The party is definitely over when kids stop doing the chicken dance and think that the first snowflakes of the year are gross.

My new line with my 12 and 14 year old daughters is

"I remember when you used to be nice."

I love em but, they are teenagers.

And I just had four wisdom teeth and two molars pulled yesterday.
