If you've been to this blog, you've seen this tree. Since I bought my house, this tree has reminded me of how big some things are and how small I am. Its definitely one of the most impressive elm trees I've ever seen and I consider myself lucky to have a clear of it towering over the far side of farmer bob's hayfield. If you sit on the corner of my deck on the morning of equinox (fall or spring), the sun rises up through the center of it. Last August, this rainbow looped itself over top of it.
I noticed last fall that some of the leaves turned early and fell. This spring, the leaves didn't come back and it looks like this great tree is dead.
I don't know much about trees but I try to notice the really great ones. I can only guess how long this elm tree lived for ... a century? It almost seems like it had a heart attack.
How can something that is so big and timeless die so fast?
