As mother's day approaches...
I was driving the outskirts of a small, unattractive city this afternoon checking out all of the people who were out for their walks. It was a glorious day to be outside.
I spotted a pair of pre-teen boys waiting at a corner for the traffic light to change. Each stood on the opposite side of a wheel chair and each held onto one of the handles that are used to push it. In the wheel chair sat a woman and, as I drove closer, I could see that she wasn't that old. I thought that she must be their mom. Her face hinted that she was in the more advanced stages of M.S. or had suffered a severe stroke.
As the light changed, they held onto her chair and began to cross the street. I noticed that SHE had the joystick and she was driving the electric wheelchair.
So..... who was really helping who across the street?
Do you remember how angry our kids got at us when they caught us holding onto the back of the little tricycle THEY were peddling? Do you remember how angry we got at our own parents about these things when it was time for US to assert our independence?

Who's helping who, what a great little story, and so true. I think many times in life we could wonder that, especially if you are a parent and more especially if you are divorced. I know my kids have helped me quite a bit and made me wonder who's leading who.
